Our "Saw Mill Lodge" weekend
vacation home is in Pescadero, on the San Mateo coast halfway between
Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. We are three miles inland and 900
feet above sea level, which puts us above the coastal fog bank most of
the time. When the fog is gone we have an
ocean view from our back deck. The property
is 60 acres, about two thirds of which are timberland. The
6-bedroom 7-bath casual ranch-style house had been operated as a
bed-and-breakfast before we bought it in 2001.
This was the site of an operating saw mill until the 1930's, but little
evidence of that remains except the stumps of the giant redwood trees
that were logged. We maintain many of the old logging skid roads
as hiking trails.
